Good morning. This is my first time in this forum and new in Monarch.
I started to use it the day before yesterday after a was told this program can help me solve lots of problems with reports, excell, and other kisnd of documents.
Well I started to use it and I got this far, but cann't seems to figure out why I am getting this null value.

The first line on the last colums keep getting "Null Value"
There are other issues that I want to find out how to fix them like avoiding the repetitious values like Doc_ID, PO_Date, and PO_#

Hi Francisco, and welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of Monarch.
While you cannot attach files to the forum, you can post samples of your report (http://www.monarchforums.com/showthread.php?t=2290). This really helps to figure out the best ways to handle problems.
Seeing that you're extracting most of your UPC numbers (which are likely numeric fields) seemingly properly, I'd speculate that the first UPC number contains a letter. It might be something tricky to spot, like a letter O instead of a zero. Monarch wouldn't be able to derive a numeric value in that case, and would give you a null value.
As to the others that are duplicating values from prior records, you can change the Empty Cells option for the field from "Copy value from previous record" to "Leave blank".
If you can post a sample of your report using the CODE tags, we'll be better able to assist.

Some records have the word LEVEL in the row. What does that signify? Does it throw out the column definitions?
How are you going about setting the trap and template definition for the records?

The problem I'm still having is the "null value" I'm not sure why it keeps giving the null value just in that first field.
After two days playing with the software without having any experience in this, I think I have accomplih what I wanted.
Yesterday I spoke with someone who had little bet of exposure to this software and told me I could actually make Monarch to create an excell file that will contain my data and some hardcoded data as well.
So how would I be able to do this?
I would like to add two fileds, Dep_No and Vendor_No. both will have a hard code value of 725 and 002688?

Looks like the last column in your fist line has no value.
Assuming Monarch's field for that column is defined as a NUMERIC field a blank value is invalid and will return a NULL. In the OPTIONS you can can specify how you want nulls to display BUT, without further work to adapt the field, you cannot use the displayed value for calcualtions.
However, in this case it looks like you are just dealing with a reference code that happens to be numeric. If you never use the value in the field for calculations you can make it a CHARACTER field instead and then a blank field would be OK. By default Monarch would decide that the column seems to be a numeric column but you can override easily when required.
That said I THINK you have a problem with the extraction. It's not easy to be sure (I will check some more) as it looks like the last posted sample data start point may not be the same as the 'extracted' sample example BUT I think your ITEM NUMBER and UPC NUMBER values are coming from different records. If so that might explain why you have a blank UPC field for the first record ...that record's UPC number seems to appear in the second record. I'm guessing you have a problem with an Append trap somewhere and maybe don't need the append anyway.
As for the fixed value fields. Extract what you can from the report into the table. The in the table window set up some calculated fields, one for each of the fields you want and simply enter the values you want to display as the formula. For example "725".
If this might vary from one running of the model the next you could make it a User Entered field to be prompted for whenever the report/model is loaded.
Having said that the two value you mention seem to be in the report at the top in among the headers - so you can simply pull them from there using an append or maybe two appends if that would be easier. (One or two is a decision to be made dependent on the format and structure of the full report.

Looks like a PAGE HEADER template of 3 rows on any row that prints a page number over on the right would also be a useful idea. since some sections of the report seem to split either side of the page breaks and this can be troublesome sometimes. PAGE HEADER templates are 'invisible' areas to the processes working with other templates so the three line would be igniored by the other process but not by any part of the PAGE HEADER template processing.

Hope you had a great weekend!
After I read your reply, for some reason that I don't know, I change the type of templetes I had in my model.
See, all the templetes were append and only one was detail. The detail one was for the item #. What I did was:
first I change the item # templete from detail and I made it append.
then I changed the UPC templedte from append to detail
and there it was. the null value went away and now I can see my upc#.
I would like to know why or how this works so I can determine the type of templete I need to use.
I read the chapter 1 and 2 and I theorically understand the concept or I think I understand.
A header templete for something that repeats in every page
A append templete for things associated to details.
A detail templete for all the details in you report
A footer for totals.
Can you add more than one detail templete in one single model?

It sounds like you have a resolution.
You can only have one detail template and you must have a detail template - it represents the lowest level of detail you need from the report. Usually that would the lowest level of the report heirarchy, as in this case.
The report layout is unusually confusing to the point of being almost unreadable 'at a glance'.
But to me your detail will be the 'Items'. Basically this block:

I am assuming here that an order reference will always relate to a single Internal Vendor Number and Qualifier department number and that this set of references is really one consistent set. If so they can be treated as a single append. If there can be variation then they may need to be separated into individual appends.
Footers will always need to grab any data they contain using a trap that starts AFTER a detail record or set of detail records. So yes, if you want subtotals they will come lower in the report (usually - people have seen exceptions to that concept!)
Page Header templates are pretty much as you describe them but also have some special properties which are useful if the report splits records across page breaks - as your does. So even if you don't need any data from the page header area you can still create a Page Header template without aby fields so that those lines are not seen by the other templates.
I always think the first task, before starting a model for a new report, is to get to fully understand the heirarchical structure of the data in the report AS YOU NEED TO READ IT - which may not be quite the same as the way the report is formatted, although usually it will be close or you will need to consider how to re-structure it before you can analyse it.
So in this case the order items are the lowest level of detail. Next UP would be the order header detail. And then maybe something form the first few lines of the report header page in this case although there is nothing there I would definitiely see as being a requirement.
If you have started with the Learning guide I would recommend working through to chapter 10 or thereabouts as the journey will help with familiarisation as well as features and usage methods. Then use the other chapters as they become relevant to your needs.
Or if you have an opportunity to take a training course, use it. Well worth the time and investment.
