First off, how do you do it? We contacted Datawatch twice to verify that it was a straight update but when we run the CD on the server it says that it is not compatible with the previous version datapump.
Do we need to uninstall v7.1?
If so will all the processes and schedules stick around?
How do we update?

I do believe you need to uninstall Version 7 before installing version 8. There should be an Installation Guide on the CD. I recommend you read that before doing anything. In the meantime, here's some relevant information from it:
Upgrading From Monarch Data Pump 7.x
When you run the setup program for Monarch Data Pump 8, you will be asked to uninstall the previous version. This is the correct procedure for the upgrade. Note that all your settings from Monarch Data Pump 7 will be safely retained and will work immediately after Monarch Data Pump 8 has been completely installed. NOTE: You need to ensure that the upgrade is performed at a time when no jobs are in process.

Thanks for the help. On a side note it seems like a lot of stuff works a lot better now. I had set up some distribution emails when errors would occur and for some reason they didn't work with MDP v7.1, but now they do is v8. v8 remote admin's project editor now works. It seems like it will be a solid system. Thanks datwatch!
