I only care about getting data from one part of my report. Is there a way to tell Monarch to only trap and gather data from that section? I have been editing the Text file, but that is cumbersome.

new to forum and the way it works but have been using monarch v5 for ages - the only way I could help you is if you send me an example of the report or type example of what you have and what you want in your reply

Richard, yes please post a sample of the data within the report that you would like to trap. Once we see the data and the problem, I'm sure there will be someone here who can help you out!

Richard,
To echo Phil and Darren, an example (full format but disguise the data if necessary) would help to explain the particular problem and knowing which version of Monarch you have access to may also be useful for suggesting possible solutions.
I assume you cannot easily separate the data you want from the data you don't want when you create a trap and templates - or at least can't see a way to do it.
In which case have you looked for a way to filter the records after they have been selected? If so, and if that does not seem possible either, how do you currently decide which bits of the report to keep and which to discard during your edit?
Looks like a lot of people interestind in this one!

The report is quite large. Each customer is assigned an employee. The report contains detail by customer, and then at the very end, a summary by employee.
I have one Model which pulls all of the detail (although it is missing some and I need to figure out somehow how the trap is missing the data). I then want another model which traps the summaries at the bottom.
I could not figure out how to just trap the summaries at the bottom, so I figured there must be a way to tell Monarch "ignore the first 3000 pages of this report and just trap on the last 2". That is my main question. Absent of being able to do that, I guess I need to figure out how to just trap the summary data without getting the detail.

Richard,
I think you're better off creating a new model to capture your summary data only.
To capture the summary data only, start by highlighting the first two rows of data in the summary section (in your example these are the lines for JEAN HAYES). Create a new detail template. Put an alpha trap in column 1, and SOLDE starting at column 109.
Because the word "CLIENT" floats on the line as counter increases, you may need to trap the whole phrase, then use a calculated field to strip out the actual value. Let us know if you need help with this.

Richard,
Don't worry too much about where the data are in the report - even if it is right at the end if that is the only place it exists then go for it there. Nothing much to be lost except a larger than necessary file on a disk somewhere.
What are the options? Can you get a summary only version of the report to use as a source?
Alternatively copy the last few lines of the report to notepad or wordpad and save as a text file, then use Monarch on that.
The template traps look like a bit of a challenge if you leave everything a 3000+ page report as there is some similarity of format with detail type lines above. I do see a few odd inconsistencies but can't be sure they are 'real' after the paste into the forum.
What sort of problems are you getting with the missing detail fields? Do you need to fix that? Your original post seemed to suggest that you only wanted to get to the summary section - hence the problem with the trap.
I will have a look at the sample and see if it offers a trap for the summary section exclusively.
Grant
Edit:
I have just seen Sandy's post. I agree, except that it looks possible that some of the lines in the detail section can be selected sometimes.
However if you also make one or more of the decimal point columns, that appear in ther first of the two lines you want, part of the trap you should get only the summary rows at the end of the report.
The suggestion about the CLIENTS count is good observation from Sandy. Easy to miss that!

I think I found a new favorite forum...lot's of good and fast responses...thanks.
I will settle for two models, one for detail and one for summary. Was able to trap both successfully and particularly liked the idea about using a calculated field to get number of clients!
Thanks again.

Richard,
If you do want detail and summary in one selection that looks possible. The Summary pages at the bottom of the report look like they are simply repeats of the summaries by Agent in the body of the report. (2 rows for each Agent starting at " Total Agent").
I can't be absolutely sure of that as the Agent for the detail records does not appear in the summary as posted.
But if I guessed right and you would like to extract everything in one pass let us know and we can look at that some more. I was working on your original statement that you only wanted the summary stuff at the end of the report.
Grant

Hello all,
I think the key to producing a single model is to capture the words "SOMMAIRE PAR AGENT" which I believe identifies the Summary section of the report.
Try this: begin with the model you have so far, which captures the summary data you want, but also some detail lines you do not want.
Create an Append Level trap that looks for "SOMMAIRE PAR AGENT". Paint a field to capture "SOMMAIRE PAR AGENT" as a data field (let's call this field "FindSummary".)
Now go into the Monarch table view. I believe the FindSummary data field will display "SOMMAIRE PAR AGENT" for the summary lines, and will probably be blank for any other lines.
To display only the summary lines in your table, define a Data Filter with this formula:
FindSummry="SOMMAIRE PAR AGENT"
And that should do it... smile.gif
You could say this is a practical example of using "metadata"...which is "data about the data." smile.gif This solution lets us identify what data lines are summary lines. Often, a page header or report heading/subheading will provide this kind of information. Try to capture such data as its own data field, using an append or page-header template. You can then use that data to filter out the data you don't want in your Monarch table.
Mike
