I have been through all the examples in the learning guide and read through the forum for insight on makink templates. Here is what I am trying to extract to database ready format....

Officers Tom Holets - Chief Executive Officer
"Nancy Everetz - Senior Vice President, Finance"
"Mark Allen - Vice President, Management Information Systems"
David Anderson - Vice PresidentI am not clear on what my detail template should be. I've tried many times but end up not being able to add append templates after about eight or so templates.
I need all the feilds. Any direction would be helpful. I am using Monarch pro v5

Thanks

Bo,

It depends what you want to put in the database and whether your source records are consistently formatted.

To me it looks like the entire record its detail although the Address information at the top is likely to be a special case and the same goes for the 'officers'at the bottom since the number of them (and therefore lines to process) could be different.

If the format is inconsistent life will be more interesting ...

From a quick view I don't see where appends would come into this one - but I may be wrong.

Yes, the format will be consistent and I [bracketed] the relevant database fields to trap(for examples). I finally figured out the addredd "postal" trap but still need assistance.

Before I trap all the fields, I end up only having the option of a footer or header template. I am new and my first time report writing. Basically, the above code would become one record in a database.

Bo,

Having seen 2 examples now I think part of the problem is that there are a number of fields that have a variable line count and so the format is not quite consistent.

You can try to work around this using the 'preceeding string' option for the field definition for the non-variable fields. Not sure about the variable fields in this case but they maybe can be appends.

If I can make some time this evening (I am a few hours ahead of you being in the UK) I will try to put some real templates around the suggestion. If you let me have your email address via the Private Message feature I will mail you with anything useful I can create.

A word of warning. In my experience there will always be one more anomally to test the model in this sort of file format! Some compromise may be required.

Hi Bo,

I have created a model that should give you some progress in your endeavours. There are however some questions to consider - the two sample layouts do have differences that need to be dealt with by the model.

If you let me have your email address via the Private message function I will send you my comments and an attachment with the files I have created (Using V5.02) from the posted samples and the model as it is currently. This will be the easiest way for you to see the concepts I have employed and AND the questions that remain.

Best regards,

Grant
